Dermal Fillers – Scarring

Scarring, whether derived from acne complications or other forms of trauma, can be rather difficult to live with. Most scarring is particularly unsightly in appearance, and, depending on how visible it is and where on the body it is situated, it can have seriously negative effects on our self-esteem and mental wellbeing.

There are so many treatment options on the market, from laser technology to chemical skin peels, but it can be hard to know which one is best for your skin and your particular type of scarring. It can seem like a never-ending battle trying to find the solution that works for you, but did you know that dermal fillers can have multiple benefits when targeting scarring, including not only filling out depressed (atrophic) scars, but also boosting the skin in terms of hydration skin conditioning. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers, like the ones we use at North West Aesthetics, stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, fundamental necessities for a more youthful appearance.

Other treatments available for scarring at North West Aesthetics include laser skin resurfacing and derma-roller.

This really comes down to the size and severity of your scarring as this will affect the amount of treatment required to have a significant effect on your skin. In general, you should expect a cost of around £129-£199, but this can differ. Following an in-depth consultation and assessment with one of our experts, we will then be able to offer a definite price.

Carefully and precisely injecting the dermal filler solution into specific areas of the dermis and the epidermis beneath the atrophic scarring offers volumisation and lift for a more even skin texture and a more youthful appearance to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance within your skin, reducing the risk of reaction or rejection and boosting your body’s natural collagen and elastin levels at the same time.

Your scarring will appear immediately improved as the fillers instantly lift the skin. As the treatment area settles and heals, these results will only improve further over the course of 2 weeks post-treatment. Your skin is left smooth and radiant, with even tone and texture.

This is one of the more intricate dermal filler procedures and could easily last up to 30 minutes depending on the severity of your scarring, with time being set aside for a consultation beforehand, if required.

Providing all goes well, one treatment session should efficiently treat your skin rejuvenation needs. However, dermal fillers are a temporary solution and do wear off over time, meaning that you will need to schedule repeat treatments to maintain your results and continue to minimise your scarring. Most patients find that their first repeat treatment is required at around 9-12 months.

There should be no need to take time out of your daily routine to fully recover from dermal filler injections as this is a minimally-invasive procedure that comfortably heals without the need for specific attention or downtime.

Don't be alarmed if you should experience any redness, swelling or bruising around the treatment area as this is perfectly normal and harmless. These mild side effects will usually subside within 48 hours of your treatment.

This type of scarring rejuvenation treatment is only suitable for sunken, atrophic scarring as dermal fillers are used to lift them from beneath so as to create an even texture to the skin. If you are unsure as to whether this applies to you, don't hesitate to get in touch and schedule a free consultation so that our expert team can assess your particular scarring concerns. Please note that this type of treatment is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
